Goyo Ortiz Community Development Choreographer Goyo Ortiz is the Community Development Choreographer at Casa Familiar (Casa) in San Diego on the border community of San Ysidro. Goyo is a true border citizen, born and raised in Tijuana living back and forth between LA and San Diego throughout his youth. Aware of the broader border region of LA/SD/TJ, his interests revolve around conditions of temporality, transformation, and adaptation in the built environment. Goyo has a background in Architecture and Urban Planning. He has worked at architectural design and development firms in California and the Northeast, as well as adjunct professor at Architectural Design and Urban Design at several universities in the San Diego/ Tijuana region. At Casa Familiar, Goyo’s role is to coordinate and gather support for the development of the Avanzando San Ysidro Community Land Trust by coordinating the intersection between local government agencies and the community of San Ysidro. Casa has a holistic approach to development, environmental, transportation and social-economic justice that seamlessly comes together through their Cultural Corridor Project, which Goyo also oversees. This is an ongoing project that involves direct coordination with artists, city officials and community residents for the improvement and beautification of that passageway. Goyo is also a member of the San Ysidro Planning Group.
