Name
San Diego’s Aging Roadmap: Where are we now, where are we going?
Date & Time
Wednesday, December 7, 2022, 1:45 PM - 2:45 PM
Lindsey Yourman
Description

The goal of the Aging Roadmap is to create supportive and inclusive communities where people of all ages and abilities have an equitable opportunity to thrive. Building age-friendly communities requires sustained efforts, and the Aging Roadmap provides the blueprint for the work ahead. Goals and priorities will continue to be adapted in response to COVID-19, which has brought to the forefront issues of equity, social isolation, access to technology, food security and safe transportation. Progress will continue for existing age-friendly projects promoting affordable housing, decreasing isolation , brain health, age-friendly health care, and supports to help older adults age in place.  Hear about current achievements from Aging & Independence Services, meet the County of San Diego’s very first Chief Geriatric Officer, and learn from a community partner’s work in teaching technology to older adults. We will link you to resources you can share in your organization and community and we’ll share opportunities for involvement in a variety of age-friendly efforts.

Learning Objectives: After attending this presentation:

  • Participants will be able to describe at least 3 components of the regional Aging Roadmap and next steps to get involved in local efforts.

  • Participants will have access to online tools and will be able to share resources with their communities, including the Dementia Communication Tip Card, Caregiver Handbook, Ride Well to Age Well transportation guide, and Get Connected guide for avoiding social isolation.  (We would need to make sure we include these resources in the talk!)
