Speaker Bio
Larissa McFall is dedicated to integrating environmental justice, community engagement, and social equity into sustainability and urban development. As an Associate on the LEED Technical Development Team, she helps shape the future of LEED v5, advancing resilient and equitable solutions across the built environment through collaborative working groups. Previously, as the 2022 LEED for Cities Equity Fellow, she supported local governments in embedding equity into sustainability planning and LEED certification efforts. Her Equity Scan at the city scale provided key insights into municipal equity strategies, presented at USGBC Live and Greenbuild 2022. With a Bachelor of Architecture and a Construction Management minor from Drexel University, Larissa's work is deeply informed by interdisciplinary research at the intersection of culture, policy, and the built environment. She holds a certificate from MoMA's Reimagining Blackness and Architecture and has served as a Teaching Assistant for Drexel's Social Equity in Communities course since 2022. Her senior capstone project, "Black Space Reimagined: Reclaiming Resilience," envisioned a cultural arts center and museum that fosters community engagement through sustainable design, addressing historical displacement and the need for locally driven public spaces. This work was featured in a 2023 Greenbuild panel on Environmental Justice. Larissa also serves on the PhilaNOMA Executive Board, supporting efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the architecture and design professions. Beyond her professional practice, Larissa is passionate about writing, research, and academia, exploring how social narratives shape the built environment. She is particularly interested in how urban policy, design, and sustainability intersect with lived experiences, aiming to bridge gaps between research, practice, and community impact.
