Eric H. Kearney is the President/CEO of the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky African American Chamber of Commerce. Also, he is the DEI Director of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
He has had a distinguished career in law, business, and politics.
As a state senator, Eric served as Ohio Senate Minority Leader. He championed a number of causes including adoption, children's health, small business development, and pension reform. Annually, he led a 107-mile walk from Cincinnati to Columbus to highlight an important, children's health issue. In 2014, he walked the entire State of Ohio, starting at Lake Erie and ending in Cincinnati at the Ohio River. He passed a number of impactful bills. For instance, he sponsored bills to: make February Black History Month in Ohio, create an adoption loan program, fight childhood obesity, establish Adoption Day in Ohio, reform Ohio's pension system, and create Ohio's Poet Laureate. On a national level, Eric was a member of President Barack Obama's national finance committee when he ran for U.S. Senate and President.
Eric has been a leader in Ohio's legal community. Eric is managing partner of Kearney & Kearney, LPA where he provides government relation services. He has 6 reported cases and authored a law review article, An Analysis of Election Day Error in Ohio's 2012 General Election, 62 Cleve St. Law Rev. 279 (2014). He is licensed to practice in Ohio and the United States District Court as well as before the United States Supreme Court.
In addition to politics and law, Eric has been a leader in the business community. He is an independent director on the boards of Red Fiber Holdings, and Union Savings Bank. He founded and built one of the largest Black-owned publishing companies, Sesh Communications, which publishes The Cincinnati Herald, The Northern Kentucky Herald, The Dayton Defender, and other publications.
Eric serves on some of Cincinnati's most influential and prestigious civic and community boards. He serves on the boards of: Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati Legal Aid, Creative Ohio, FreeStore FoodBank, Northern Kentucky University Foundation, and Bethesda Hospital Foundation.
He has been recognized by the Ohio State Medical Association, Business Courier’s 40 Under 40 and 2nd Act, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Joseph A. Hall Award for Promoting Diversity, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law. He enjoys fly fishing, squash, clay pigeon shooting, and running. He has completed 8 marathons. He has traveled to Honduras, France, Israel, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia, Mexico, and Canada.
Eric earned a B.A. in English from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law. He is married to Cincinnati Vice Mayor Jan-Michele Lemon Kearney Esq. who is a graduate of Dartmouth College, Harvard School of Education, and Harvard Law School. They have two children.
