James Fontaine is a prosecutor with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office where he has worked for the past 24 years. He is the chief of the Major Narcotics Division and previously worked for over a decade in the Gang Prosecution Division where he specialized in cross-border cartel violence. As chief of the Major Narcotics Division, James supervises a team of 11 lawyers, along with several investigators and support staff whose mission, in part, is to target high-level drug traffickers, including dealers who furnish fentanyl or substances containing fentanyl that results in a user’s overdose and death. James frequently speaks to students, parents, and community and government leaders about the dangers of illicit drug use in an effort to reduce the harm caused by the opioid and synthetic drug epidemic our community is currently facing.
