Amada Torruella is a director, cinematographer, producer, and film programmer, originally from El Salvador. As a filmmaker who has grieved cultural loss and displacement due to armed conflict, Amada explores the body-territory and is interested in visually mapping out personal landscapes; the practice of documenting forms of community and life-affirming moments is an important component in their media artwork. Amada has produced and directed films that have been featured at Blackstar Film Festival and New Orleans Film Festival, amongst others. Amada is a 2021 JustFilms Ford Foundation/Rockwood Institute Fellow, a Brown Girls Doc Mafia member, and Vona Voices Alumni. Amada is developing their first feature film, Vena Aquatica, a finalist at the IF/THEN Global Pitch Competition on Environmental Stories at the 2019 International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). She is a teaching artist with Media Arts Center San Diego.
