The San Ysidro Education Collaborative (SYEC), is a volunteer driven community network that supports several working groups and community initiatives. SYEC leverages its membership to lead and champion community engagement efforts in San Ysidro in addition to providing a platform for local school administrators, government, and local players to share community needs in real time. As a result, it has established itself as the go-to place to collaborate for organizations across a range of sectors that are serving or looking to serve San Ysidro. By addressing a need in San Ysidro, the SYEC has been able to foster partnerships that yield fruitful results for both the school and the broader community.

Community schools have become an important approach to shaping schools into community hubs. This session will share more about SYEC’s successes, challenges, and potential. Additionally, it will share how authentic partnerships are fostered in a place-based community.
