LaShae Sharp-Collins is a native San Diegan with deep roots in the community who knows and understands the needs and demands of the communities in the 79th District. She received her early education from John F. Kennedy Elementary, Gompers Secondary School, and Lincoln High School located in the 79th District. After graduating high school, LaShae attended San Diego State University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies, a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Multicultural Counseling and is currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership.
LaShae is currently the Community Engagement Specialist for the San Diego County Office of Education and a Professor in the Department of Africana Studies at San Diego State University. She is the former District Director for the former California State
Assemblymember now California Secretary of State, Dr. Shirey N. Weber. In her work as a public servant, LaShae worked with various community leaders to create a positive, strong community voice and promote system changes at the local, federal, and state levels. She has over nine years of experience overseeing daily operations of a legislative office, implementation of social justice and racial equity inclusion plans, community engagement, developing and maintaining key relationships in the community with civic leaders and community partners.
Furthermore, LaShae possesses a strategic mind that is results-oriented and visionary, including the ability to generate new ideas for short and long-term goals, approach situations analytically and factually, and to exercise good judgment for equitable systemic solutions. In addition to her educational and work background, LaShae brings extensive experience leading mid-sized nonprofit organizations, college governance, state governance and legislative policy.
For fourteen years, LaShae has experienced the joys of classroom teaching. Being an educator has contributed to both her personal and professional growth. LaShae maintains an active professional life, presenting papers, coaching youth sports, and serving on numerous community boards. She is a single mother of two wonderful children. She is a dedicated mother, community volunteer, and gives one hundred percent to any task she undertakes.
