Under the leadership of President Ellen Neufeldt, CSUSM has launched a bold strategic plan grounded in values of equity, inclusion and care for all. Our mission is student success leading to a vision of social mobility for the region we serve. In this presentation we will share our vision, mission and the ways in which we are working with community to collaboratively reach our collective goals grounded in community wellbeing. CSU San Marcos has repeatedly earned national designations related to community engagement, inclusive excellence and we are ranked as #1 in the nation for social mobility by College Net. To meet our mission of student success, we’ve adopted of a framework that describes the Student Life Cycle – the cycle encompasses building relationships while students are in elementary school through high school and extends through their enrollment, progress through and graduation from CSUSM. We will share the Cycle and the programs and strategies we use to identify, measure and track progress including milestones along the entire Cycle. The programs and strategies utilized focus on ways to build belongingness, support the development of academic skills, life skills, and target successful transition to a range of careers. We also seek an opportunity to engage in discussion with session participants – one of our values is to listen to and partner with community organizations and individuals and families. We are only successful when we directly meet the educational and learning needs of students. We anticipate robust and useful discussion in this session to help us refine and potentially identify new programs.
Attendees will be able to:
1. Describe various definitions of student success and social mobility;
2. Identify milestones in the CSUSM Student Life Cycle;
3. Create linkages to their own work related to higher education.
