Mark joined The San Diego Foundation as its fourth president and CEO in May 2019. While under his leadership, the Foundation’s assets have grown from $850 million to over $1.2 billion, and grantmaking has topped $100 million two years in a row. The Foundation raised $67 million for its COVID-19 Community Response Fund and, by December 2021, had deployed that entire sum to organizations throughout the region.

San Diego Foundation has received many accolades for its COVID-19 response efforts. However, Mark is most proud of SDF being named a best place to work, based on employee surveys, by the Union-Tribune for three years in a row.

Mark serves on the Board of Trustees for McDaniel College and the Board of Directors for Certified Fundraising Executives International, the League of California Community Foundations, San Diego Regional Policy and Innovation Center, and San Diego Symphony Foundation Board.

Mark, his husband, Tim, live in the Bankers Hill neighborhood.
