Tell Me How it Really Is!: Centering Youth Voices to Increase Resilience Through Art (9:45 AM - 10:05 AM)
Speaker: Patricia King - Blue Shield of CA
Research studies show that public art can positively impact overall well-being, reduce stress, foster community connectedness, and reinforce community resiliency. Blue Shield Promise Health Plan established a resiliency workgroup based in San Diego to guide the statewide implementation. CBO representatives held conversations with over 200 diverse youth to understand how they interpret resiliency and ways to improve their overall well-being. Seven art projects and a five-month long social media campaign were developed and activated for approach and method implementation. These projects engaged over 1,000 youth aged 13-22 from historically marginalized backgrounds. Local artists, both professional and youth artists-in-training, created and led the creative implementation of murals. This workshop will discuss how a collaborative community model centered on the voices of youth can improve resiliency and reduce the stigma of mental health through art.

Financial Planning is for Everyone (10:20 AM - 10:40 AM)
Speaker: Felipe Arevalo - San Diego Financial Literacy Center
This presentation highlights the importance of financial planning and addresses the key question for you and those you serve, “but how do I get started?”
In today’s world, where influencers on Tiktok and Instagram are often considered a source of information it’s more important than ever to get financial advice from a trusted professional. While it’s true that most financial professionals can also be found on social media, it’s impossible to provide in-depth advice to fit everyone’s lifestyle in a short dance video. After all, everyone is on their own financial journey with unique goals and lifestyles.
So how do we bridge the gap between Certified Financial Planners (CFP) who want to help and those who would benefit from talking to them the most?
Whether someone meets with one of our volunteer CFPs or finds one on their own, we want to encourage everyone to take the first step to a better financial life.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the importance of a financial plan
- Explain the practice and relevance of financial goal setting
- Learn and be able to share the first steps of looking at one's finances
